Pune: Bengal woman loses Rs 50,000 in online fraud

The police said that on Saturday night, the woman placed an order for alcoholic beverages online.

A 32-year-old woman, who had placed an order for home delivery of alcoholic beverages, lost Rs 50,000 to online fraudsters on Saturday.

The woman, who is from West Bengal and is visiting Pune, has filed an FIR at Hinjewadi police station. She is staying in Bavdhan in the city.

The police said that on Saturday night, the woman placed an order for alcoholic beverages online. “She called a number she found online. The person who took the call said that as it was a dry day, the liquor shop was closed. The suspect, however, said that if the payment was made online, he would have the order delivered at her address.”

The suspect then sent her a link to make the online payment. After clicking the links and initiating the transaction, the woman received one-time passwords, which she shared with the suspect and subsequently lost Rs 31,700 and Rs 19,000 from her account. Hinjewadi police have launched a probe.
