It’s been nearly a year since he left The One Show, but Matt Baker’s former co-host Alex Jones has said the star hasn’t been able to get on with as many projects as he’d have liked since leaving.

Alex Jones, who worked with Matt on the show, caught up with OK! for a chat in this week’s magazine and explained her former colleague’s situation.

When asked about whether she’s still in touch with Matt since he left in March 2020, Alex replied: “Oh yeah.”

She continued: “He’s really happy as well, doing his own thing. It’s been an odd year, obviously. No one could have predicted this [the pandemic] was going to happen,so I think he hasn’t been able to get on with as many projects as he was hoping to.”

Alex also opened up about what it’s been like to get used to the show’s new hosts who jumped on board to replace Matt after the end of his tenure. Ronan Keating and Jermaine Jenas, as well as Chris Ramsey, have all been on hand to present alongside Alex.

She said: “What I’ve loved is that they’ve all brought their own kinds of flavour to the show. Ronan, he’s lovely. He’s brilliant. You know, we have children the same age, so we have a lot in common.

“And Jermaine Jenas is such a nice guy. It’s been great in lockdown to have that change. Our viewers have been very loyal. It’s lovely that we’ve been a sort of constant for them, but having that variety has helped to keep things fresh as well.”

Meanwhile, Matt has recently opened up about the difficulty of striking a balance between work and home life.

Former Blue Peter star Matt, 43, opened up on his difficulties after he gave up his role of president of the National Federation of Young Farmers' Clubs.

After it was reported former The One Show host Matt had stepped down from his role, he apologised and admitted he needed to find time for his children Molly and Luke.

He told The Farmers Guardian: “I’m sorry. I can't get out there and see you because I'm so busy.

“I don't want to play the old family card but I'm sure all the families will know I've got young children.”

Matt admitted that he tries to prioritise spending quality time with his kids while he’s not working.

He said: “When I'm not at work I'm trying to see them. It gets very difficult.”

It comes after Matt quit his co-presenting role on The One Show last year.
