Alex Jones welcomes second son and reveals his adorable name

The One Show's Alex Jones has given birth to her second son and shared an first adorable photo to social media.

Revealing she'd named him 'Kit Thomson', the presenter – who went on maternity leave at the start of this month – told fans her family were 'besotted' with the new arrival.

Sharing a black and white snap of her newborn's hands to Instagram , an excited Alex wrote: "And then there were 4!!!

"Little Kit Thomson arrived safely and very speedily last Monday at 2.21am weighing a healthy 7lbs 3.

"Teddy, Charlie and I are absolutely besotted by baby brother and are enjoying this special time as we get used to being a foursome and generally breathing in that lovely newborn smell!!!

"A huge thank you to the midwives at the birth centre, Queen Charlotte Hospital for everything you did for us. #nhsheroes "

Fans are likely to wonder if the name Kit has been inspired by the actor Kit Harington – star of Game of Thrones.

42-year-old Alex and husband Charlie are already parents to two-year-old Edward.

The TV star alerted One Show viewers of her impending departure from the show earlier this month by sharing a snap of her growing baby bump as she joked she was 'about to pop.'

During her maternity leave, Alex's role on the BBC One series has been temporarily taken over by several presenters including Stacey Dooley, Emma Willis, Mel Giedroyc.

Alex announced her second pregnancy on The One Show alongside co-star Matt Baker.

She admitted she didn't want to share the news so soon, but had no choice due to her blossoming baby bump.

Alex previously spoke out about how difficult it was to conceive the second time around, telling The Sun: "I have to say, the first time – absolutely fine. Luckily, God, it happened.

"But second time, not as easy. I suppose I’m older now, but we took it for granted that it would be OK. But you don’t really know until you start trying how it’s going to go, do you?

“The majority of couples I know have had something, not always IVF, but some problem that needs to be sorted out."
