Alex Van Halen Pays Tribute To Late Brother Eddie

Van Halen drummer Alex Van Halen has paid tribute to his late brother Eddie Van Halen, who passed away on October 6 after a long battle with cancer.

“Hey, Ed. Love you. See you on the other side. Your brother, Al,” reads the message delivered to the Van Halen News Desk. Along with the message, Alex posted a black and white photo of the pair as children.

Alex was reportedly among those at his brother’s side when the guitarist died.

Alex and Eddie formed the Broken Combs in 1964. After going through various names and lineups over the next decade, the group changed its name to Van Halen, with singer David Lee Roth and bassist Michael Anthony joining them. Eddie began as pianist and drummer, and shifted to the guitar and eventually became one of the greatest to plug in a six-string.

The band released its self-titled debut album in 1978 and went on to make history as years rolled by. Alex, the only member to stay with the group throughout its existence, played on all 12 studio albums made by the band.

In his final Instagram post, dated May 8, Eddie greeted Alex on his 67th birthday, captioning his post: “Happy Birthday Al!! Love Ya!!”

Eddie’s death was announced by his son Wolfgang, who became Van Halen’s bassist in 2006.
