Iain, who has opened up about having his own suicidal thoughts in the past, has urged people to “be kinder”.

In his most recent interview with this week’s Radio Times, he said: “I’ve had a lot of therapy, but I’m not trained in any way whatsoever.

“All I can do when I’m on air is three things, I can share what I’ve been through.”

On Caroline’s death, he added: “Caroline Flack dying really upset me. I worked with her about ten years ago for a few days and she was delightful.

“I’m not going to point the finger at anyone because I don’t think you can when someone takes their own life.

“It’s the culmination of all kinds of different factors, but ‘Be kind’ was what really hit me about that. In fact, ‘Be kind’ isn’t enough.

“It’s ‘Be kinder’. However kind you’re being, you can be kinder.”

The Love Island presenter took her own life a day after learning the Crown Prosecution Service were going to pursue her case after an alleged incident with her boyfriend Lewis Burton.

After learning the news last month, he shared his thoughts on Talk Radio.

The pair met when he was a guest on I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!’s spin-off show, which Caroline presented from 2009 to 2010.

He said: “As a host she was very kind and not at all selfish like some hosts can be.

“She was very generous, she realised the show wasn’t about her and that we flew thousands of miles, she made sure we got plenty of on-screen time.

“I was so sad to hear that she had taken her life in the way she had taken her own life.

“I have sympathy for anybody who is in that much pain that they can only see one option.

“I’ve been very close to it, I’d say four or five times I’ve been close to it and somehow I’ve always managed to knock myself back into the right track.”

Caroline’s private funeral took place at Greenacres at Colney on the edge of Norwich last week.
