Carrie Underwood Shares ‘Softly And Tenderly’ From Upcoming Gospel Album

Carrie Underwood has released “Softly And Tenderly,” a song from her upcoming gospel album, My Savior, which is due out on March 26.

The track, which was shared on Friday (February 12), is one of the 13 songs Underwood has recorded for the forthcoming album.

Underwood has a simple piano line as accompaniment for her rendition of the earlier part of the song, after which the strings and steel guitar show up.

“Softly and tenderly Jesus is calling / Calling for you and for me,” she sings. “See on the portals He’s waiting and watching / Watching for you and for me / Come home, come home / Ye who are weary come home / Earnestly, tenderly Jesus is calling / Calling, ‘O sinner come home.'”

Will L. Thompson wrote and composed “Softly and Tenderly” in 1880. Several artists, including Alan Jackson, Amy Grant, Reba McEntire, Trisha Yearwood, and Kelly Clarkson have recorded the song.

Underwood performed “Softly And Tenderly” as the soundtrack for the CMA Awards’ “In Memoriam” segment in 2017 that paid tribute to the country music acts who passed away that year, as well as the victims of the shooting at the Route 91 Harvest Festival in Las Vegas, Nevada.

My Savior is a follow-up to Underwood’s 2020 holiday album My Gift.
