He’s the go-to publicist for Aussie reality stars, with a client list that includes the likes of Jessika Power, Cyrell Paule and Natasha Spencer.

But Max Markson has issued a dire warning to Married At First Sight and Love Island stars hoping to cash in on their 15 minutes of fame: ‘Don’t quit your day job.’

The PR guru told The Herald Sun: ‘Not everybody makes it [as a full-time influencer] because they don’t have the volume of followers on their social media.’

‘You have to be outrageous, you need personality, you need storylines that will keep you on a show, you need to get noticed,’ he added.

Markson says you can make a decent living as an influencer at 100,000 followers.

If your Instagram following is less than that, you’re probably better off sticking with your pre-fame career.

‘Once you have over 100,000 followers, you might be able to give up your day job and just earn money from collaborations,’ he said.

‘If it is, like, 50,000 to 70,000, don’t give up your day job, you have to keep working. At 200,000 to 250,000 followers, that is a sweet spot.’

Markson explained that anyone with more than 250,000 genuine Instagram followers can sit back, relax and not have to worry about having a ‘normal’ job again.

One of Markson’s most successful clients is Jessika Power, who is still making a good living from sponsored Instagram posts two years after appearing on MAFS.

The 29-year-old hasn’t returned to her old job in administration and now works for herself as a full-time influencer, spruiking beauty products, makeup and sex toys.

‘No, I do not have another job other than Instagram,’ she said recently.

‘I earn all my money from Instagram, I earn a really good penny from Instagram.

‘I do not give you guys s**t products to buy, though. I am constantly trialing new products from brands that want me to promote on my Instagram for them.’
