The Strictly Come Dancing host, who earned £365,000 in 2019-20, said it was “really good” the corporation published the annual wage of its top stars. Match Of The Day host Gary Lineker, 59, was the highest earner with an unchanged salary of £1.75 million. But he has since signed a new contract, which will see that fee cut by about £400,000.

That means he could earn less than Zoe Ball, 49, next year. The Radio 2 breakfast show presenter has seen her pay rise to £1.36 million.

Claudia, who presents Strictly with Tess Daly, 51, said: “It was really good that everyone’s salaries were published because it altered things. And it’s a public-owned company and people should know where their money is spent.”

Asked if the BBC had made enough progress, the mother-of-three, replied: “Not yet, getting there. You have to start the conversation.”

The 48-year-old revealed her own mum, journalist Eve Pollard, did not tell her employers she was expecting until she was visibly pregnant but said things had improved since.

She added: “It will be better for my daughter, it will be better for your grandchildren, it has to be.”
