Good Morning Britain host Ben Shephard, 48, has revealed he once tried to make money by stripping with a university pal. The ITV favourite candidly referred to his “Magic Mike” days while he was being interviewed on That Gaby Roslin Podcast.

While Ben is best known for presenting shows like Tipping Point and Good Morning Britain, he is also trained in dance and drama, with a desire to return to the stage one day.

During a discussion about the many paths Ben’s life might have taken, Gaby asked the star what his dream role would be.

“Well they’re doing a new Magic Mike aren’t they?” Ben quipped cheekily.

Magic Mike is a 2012 film loosely based on the experiences of Channing Tatum, who was an 18-year-old male stripper in Tampa, Florida.

Since the film came out 10 years ago, it has spawned a successful franchise, including live shows in cities across the globe.

“Oh, no you’ve done that,” Gaby joked back in reference to the show, which prompted Ben to mutter: “I have done that, actually.”

“Have you?!” Gabby exclaimed, as Ben continued sheepishly: “Yeah, it was a long time ago…

“Me and Sam, my housemate – we decided to get some money. We were going to be strippers at the end of University time.

“And we were going to do some of the sport teams’ end-of-season parties to get some money,” he continued bemusedly.

“Annie talked us out of it at the time and… I’m not sure that was such a good idea.”

Ben met his wife Annie at University, with the pair marrying in 2004 and welcoming two sons: Sam, 17, and Jack, 15.

“So you never actually did stripping?” Gaby pressed on, to which Ben replied: “We did get asked to do the lacrosse girls’ end-of-season do and we were all for it.

“And I think I’d started trying to teach him (Sam) some moves…” he added.

“And then Annie was like, ‘You are kidding, aren’t you? You know you’re not going to do this.

“‘As much as this seems like a really good idea to the two of you, you are not going to do this.’

“So that was one thing she stopped me doing,” Ben chuckled. “And she’s always so encouraging!”

Ben Shephard has co-hosted the ITV breakfast show Good Morning Britain alongside Susanna Reid, Kate Garraway and Charlotte Hawkins since 2014.

He has also popular game show Tipping Point since 2012, and has stepped back in to present Ninja Warrior UK after a three-year absence.

Prior to his work on ITV, he was a main presenter on the now defunct breakfast programme GMTV.
