The death of Gogglebox star Pete McGarry was announced on the show’s Twitter page yesterday. Today, his wife Linda broke her silence to reveal her 71-year-old spouse had been battling bowel cancer. The reality star said he received his diagnosis earlier this year after shedding six stone.
Pete died just days after he was told his prognosis.
She said of her late spouse: “Pete was a lovely man and I was so lucky to have him for 25 years.
“I said to him, ‘We’ve not only been 25 years, it’s been day and night with each other’. He was my life.”
Linda was by her long-term husband’s side at their Essex home when he passed away.
She told The Sun she had been receiving messages of support from fans of the show from all over the world.
Pete, Linda and her son George originally joined Gogglebox in 2013 and swiftly became fan favourites.
The show said of his passing yesterday: “We are deeply saddened to announce that Gogglebox star Pete McGarry passed away at the age of 71 this weekend with his family by his side after a short illness.
“Pete will be dearly missed by the entire Gogglebox family, cast and crew.
“Our thoughts are with Linda, their children and grandchildren.”
Reflecting on his ill period, she recalled how she offered to sing but he jokingly declined her request.
“He was always taking the mickey out of me on the show and he was like that to the end,” she added.
“When he was really ill I asked him if he wanted me to sing to him and he wailed ‘Nooooo’.

“He had a marvellous sense of humour – when we were driving and I’d cut someone up he’d shout ‘we’re lost’, he was so lovely.”
She added her son George is “really cut up” by the news.
The couple didn’t have children together themselves, but fostered more than 100 kids.
Linda has two grown up boys while Pete had two daughters with his first with Sue.
The trio stepped down from the show after George went on to compete on Celebrity Big Brother in 2014.
At the time, Gogglebox producer Chantal Boyle said: “You can see why they would accept the offer to go on Big Brother.
“But we can’t have them in the new series of Gogglebox.”
George made it to the final of the show, which was won by Gary Busey.
