Golden Globes 2020: Fleabag, Killing Eve and The Crown lead the British nominations with homegrown shows featuring in SIX categories
The prodigious talents of Phoebe Waller-Bridge have once again been recognised, while Royal drama The Crown also features prominently among the British nominations for the 77th Golden Globe Awards.
Both Killing Eve and Fleabag feature among this year’s list of nominees, with the latter receiving a total of three across various categories, including Best Comedy Series.
Andrew Scott features in the Best TV Supporting Actor category for his portrayal of the Priest in Waller-Bridge’s two series sit-com about the dating disasters of a sexually insatiable young woman living in London.

Elsewhere Killing Eve, co-written by Waller-Bridge and based on author Luke Jennings’ novel Codename Villanelle, takes a worthy spot in the category for Best Television Series – Drama.
The show competes against Royal drama The Crown, one of three nominations received by the Netflix show, Big Little Lies, The Morning Show, and Succession.
Recognition: Waller-Bridges and Fleabag co-star Andrew Scott features in the Best TV Supporting Actor category, while the show is named in the category for Best Television Series – Musical or Comedy
Jodie Comer, the show’s leading lady, features in the category for Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series – Drama.
The actress faces stiff competition from fellow Brit Olivia Colman, who gets a nod for her well-received portrayal of Queen Elizabeth II in The Crown, season three.
Jennifer Aniston also features for The Morning Show, while Nicole Kidman and Reese Witherspoon go head to head in the same category for their roles in Big Little Lies and The Morning Show.

Sacha Baron Cohen joins the British nominations following his appearance in The Spy, winning a place in the category for Best Performance by an Actor in a Limited Series or Motion Picture Made for Television.
Jared Harris features in the same category thanks to his role as Soviet Inorganic chemist Valery Legasov in Netflix drama Chernobyl.

Co-star Emily Watson also gets a nod, with her role as Ulyana Khomyuk garnering a place alongside Bonham-Carter in the category for Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role in a Series, Limited Series or Motion Picture Made for Television.
Elsewhere the category for Best Performance by an Actress in a Limited Series or Motion Picture Made for Television features a British presence, with Helen Mirren winning a nomination for her role in Catherine the Great.
Veteran Scottish star Brian Cox wins a nomination in the category for Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series – Drama, for his role in Succession.

Both films also feature in the category for Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy, but they face stiff competition from Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon A Time In Hollywood, Taika Waititi’s Jojo Rabbit and Craig Brewer’s Dolemite Is My Name.
Best Actor in a Motion Picture – Drama also features two British actors, with Christian Bale getting a nod for Ford v Ferrari, and Jonathan Pryce for The Two Popes.

Giving the show an extra British presence, Ricky Gervais will host the ceremony for the fifth time.
The 77th Golden Globe Awards will take place at the The Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, California on January 5th 2020.
