A Place in the Sun presenter Danni Menzies has opened up about her mental health journey in a new interview. The 32-year-old told the host of the Headstrong podcast that she stopped eating for a short period of time following a series of upsetting events.

Danni “shut off” and quit university after depression kicked in, following the death of an ex boyfriend and an unexpected accident.

She explained that she was feeling “really low” and crying all the time when she returned home to Scotland to live with her parents.

“It got to the point where I just really couldn’t stop crying and I’d lost a lot of weight, because I didn’t see the point.

“I never had an eating problem, but I didn’t see the point of eating because I didn’t want to be here anymore.

“I would never have done anything to hurt myself, I couldn’t do that, but I was mentally at a point where I just didn’t want to be here anymore,” she added.

The Channel 4 star visited a local counsellor and eventually checked into the priory in a bid to process her emotions.

However it was not until much later that her mental attitude changed and she was able to start moving forward with her life.

She had a new outlook on life.

During the podcast appearance, Danni detailed the events that led to her “low point”.

She explained that a freak accident on a bucking bronco during a night out saw her nose split in two places.

The art student also received a head injury, which left her unable to see properly for a month.

Prior to that, she had been told the news that her old flame had died, following an undetected heart problem.

When the podcast was released last month, Danni revealed the reasons why she had shared her experience in an Instagram update.

“It’s taken me a long time to feel comfortable covering these topics and I hope that anyone who listens that might be having a tough time gets something out of this.

“Things are not always easy and sometimes our biggest challenges can be within. Thanks @louisstrong for having me on,” she added, in view of her 82,200 followers.
