James May, 57, alongside Jeremy Clarkson, 60, and Richard Hammond, 50, are former presenters on Top Gear. The iconic trio walked away from the BBC show after Jeremy’s “fracas” with one of the show’s producers.

In March 2015, Jeremy was suspended by the BBC over a catering dispute, which took place while they were filming on location in Hawes, North Yorkshire.

Following an investigation into the incident it was determined that a member of staff was subjected to an “unprovoked physical and verbal attack” by the presenter.

The news made headlines at the time and the BBC later announcing his contract with the broadcaster would not be renewed.

Following this, Richard and James handed in their resignations as a result.

James has now addressed the incident, as the car-enthusiast gears up to front his very own cooking programme.

He revealed that the trio have recently wrapped up filming another The Grand Tour special in Scotland.

The small-screen star admitted the “long days” of filming can make all three of them “insistent” when it comes to getting their hands on some food.

James explained, seemingly referencing Jeremy’s spat: “I don’t think [an argument about food] has ever happened apart from on that occasion.

“We have very long days when we’re doing our specials.”

He continued: “So when we’re ready to eat we probably do get quite… not bad-tempered but insistent, let’s say, about having something.”

Top Gear was later fronted by Chris Evans but after just one year he left the show in 2016.

The popular programme is now hosted by Paddy McGuinness, Freddie Flintoff and Chris Harris.

James’ comments come as he spoke candidly about his new show, Oh Cook!.

Speaking about Jeremy and Richard’s attitude towards their own cooking, James admitted they tend to stick to sandwiches and crisps while on the road.

“Jeremy is quite interested in fashionable restaurants,” he added in the same interview in this week’s Radio Times.

“But whatever any of us cooked – even if it was quite good – the others would be required to say ‘that’s awful’ and ‘I’ve been sick’.”

Elsewhere, the small-screen stars recently wrapped up filming another series of the Amazon Prime series of The Grand Tour.

It comes as fans are still awaiting the premiere of their Madagascar special which has not yet aired.

The latest offering – which was filmed in Scotland – has not yet been given a release date.
