Responding to the success of Joker, Joaquin Phoenix had earlier said, “I don’t think I expected this movie to be successful. I don’t know if I had any expectation. Honestly, Todd and I were just trying to make something that didn’t end our careers.

After the monstrous success of Joker, filmmaker Todd Phillips plans to reunite with actor Joaquin Phoenix. According to a report by The Hollywood Reporter, Todd outsized an idea and rights to develop a portfolio of DC characters’ origin characters. “Director Todd Phillips is likely to reteam with star Joaquin Phoenix for a sequel to the $1 billion-grossing R-rated hit Joker,” a source informed the entertainment portal. Since Joker has crossed $1 billion, the makers are planning to come up with a sequel and it is quite possible that Joaquin Phoenix will reprise the role.

As reported by The Guardian, “Talk of the sequel has been rife since the film’s critically acclaimed premiere at the Venice film festival in August, but confirmation has proved elusive.” The sequel of Joker is in the final stages of discussion and the director-actor duo is likely to reteam. Todd will apparently write the screenplay to the sequel along with co-writer Scott Silver, with whom he worked on the original’s script.

Meanwhile, responding to the success of Joker, Joaquin had earlier said, “I don’t think I expected this movie to be successful. I don’t know if I had any expectation. Honestly, Todd and I were just trying to make something that didn’t end our careers. I remember, like eight years ago, I was told, Movies are changing. They’re not making the movies that you want to make, so you’ve got to do one of these. It makes sense. It probably is a good strategy. But for me, I guess the fear was that you’d get locked into doing something repeatedly that you don’t really care about, that doesn’t motivate you or excite you.”

Besides Joaquin, Joker featured Robert De Niro, Zazie Beetz, Frances Conroy, Brett Cullen, Glenn Fleshler, Bill Camp, Shea Whigham, and Marc Maron in supporting roles.
