Meghan and Harry thank Elton John for being ‘a friend to our kids’ in surprise appearance

Prince Harry and Meghan made a surprise appearance on a programme aired by streaming platform Disney+ – Elton John Live: Farewell from Dodger.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex were among the celebrities and prominent figures who paid tribute to Sir Elton ahead of his farewell show, which was broadcast live from California's Dodger Stadium by the US streaming platform in the early hours of Monday.

The Duke and Duchess's clip was placed between the best wishes to Sir Elton made by fellow singer Tony Bennett and the video filmed by US President Joe Biden and the First Lady, Dr Jill Biden.

In their brief clip, Meghan spoke first and, while smiling widely to the camera, suggested she and her husband had the chance to attend one of Sir Elton's most recent concerts.

She said: "Hi Elton, we just wanted to say congratulations and that we are just so proud of you and that we were able to see you on your farewell tour also."

Standing closely next to his wife, Prince Harry then chimed in and spoke about the special relationship Sir Elton has had with his mother, the late Princess of Wales, and continues to have with him and his young family – including his toddler children Archie Harrison and Lilibet 'Lili' Diana.

Harry said: "And thank you for entertaining everybody for so many decades, thank you for being the friend that you were for my mum, thank you for being our friend, thank you for being friend to our kids and thank you for entertaining people around the world.

"Even though this is officially your retirement, this won't be your last gig, we know that, but we love you and congratulations on an incredible career".

Meghan, who donned a brown top, then placed her head on Harry's shoulder and blew a kiss to the camera.

Archie, 3, and Lili, 1, were not present in the video, despite the sweet mention made by their father.

On the other hand, the clip gave viewers the chance to catch a glimpse of Meghan and Harry's surroundings, with the couple appearing to have filmed this clip in front of the entrance of the office of their organisation, Archewell, as a door behind them can be seen bearing its logo.

Sir Elton, who famously sang a rewritten version of his Candle In The Wind during the funeral of Princess Diana in 1997, remained close to Harry throughout the years.

In 2019, the worldwide famous singer and songwriter sided with the Sussexes in the midst of the controversy regarding the Duke and Duchess' use of four private jets for their two private holidays in less than a fortnight.

Taking to social media, Sir Elton said he had provided Harry, Meghan and Archie with a private jet for their return trip to his home in Nice in August that year.

A few weeks prior to this trip, Sir Elton and the Sussexes had walked down together the red carpet of the European premiere held in London of The Lion King.

The songwriter was also among the hundreds of guests invited to Meghan and Harry's wedding in May 2018.

During the wedding reception that followed, he performed a rendition of Can You Feel The Love Tonight, an experience he later recalled during an interview.

Speaking to The Sun, Sir Elton said: "It was fun. They were a great audience so I did them another song. I was only going to do three and I did four.

"I added in Can You Feel The Love Tonight as an extra."
