The Chase star Anne Hegerty, 62, has taken to Twitter to defend friend and former co-star Nick Knowles, 58, on Twitter, after a social media user slated the DIY SOS host. The Governess went on to reveal the previously unseen and secret DIY contraptions the TV presenter had built for the camp during their 2018 stint in ITV’s I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!.

The offending tweet that sparked the Chaser’s response was referencing Nick’s time presenting show DIY SOS, as well as yesterday’s 20 degree weather.

“Why is it when the sun comes out every k**b who thinks he’s Nick Knowles starts hammering something or cutting something – just sit in the sun man.”

Anne responded: “Thank you! Of course, your tweet should not apply to ACTUAL @MrNickKnowles who gave me his pillow and is therefore authorised to do whatever he likes.”

Reminding them of the TV star’s generous act in the jungle, the pair went on to reminisce about the secret DIY creations that the presenter had created while on the show.

A fan responded to Anne: “Does Knowles himself actually do DIY?” to which she revealed that his creative contraptions were never shown on the favourite ITV show.

The Chaser said: “He built a very useful drying rack in camp, which the producers made us move every time Dec [Donnelly] and Holly [Willoughby] came in, so you never actually saw it.”

Nick quickly retweeted Anne’s reveal, adding that the team behind the show made them move the contraption out of shot.

“Yes they weren’t keen on showing any of the things we built were they,” he added, alongside two laughing emojis.

Keen to know more, one fan replied: “Tell us the rest!”

Replying to the tweet, the DIY SOS host revealed: “Well they got very worried when I started heating a large carving knife in the fire which made @anne_hegerty laugh a lot.”

Despite not explaining what a large, heated carving knife could be used for in the Australian jungle, Anne jumped in to clarify things for fans.

She wrote: “It was actually an inspired way of melting the spilt candle wax off @JohnBarrowman’s gilet!”

During their stint in the jungle Anne said producers were “worried” about Nick as he used to stick knives in the fire.

However, an ITV spokesperson clarified to Express.co.uk that “no concerns were sparked”.

The Chase’s Governess told The Mirror: “He had been the one going down getting the logs, collecting water and bringing that back in a big sack.

“He suddenly wasn’t allowed to do all of that.”

She added: “There was one time I was called to the Bush Telegraph and they said, ‘We’re a little worried about Nick, he’s been sticking knives in the fire.’

“I said he’s been doing that, firstly because he’s worked out a brilliant way of getting the candle grease off John’s gilet.

“He was showing the camp his best Bear Grylls knowledge. No concerns were sparked!”

Nick became the sixth contestant to leave the ITV show.
