Prince Harry’s seven Coronation ‘demands’ with only a few of them being met

Prince Harry is said to have issued a series of demands ahead of the King’s Coronation in light of the once senior royal accepting his father’s invite

Earlier this month it was confirmed that the Duke of Sussex will be flying over to the UK from America to attend King Charles’ highly anticipated Coronation, but without his wife Meghan Markle in tow.

The former Suits actress is believed to have been invited to the affair, but has opted to stay stateside to look after her and Harry’s young children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.

“Buckingham Palace is pleased to confirm that the Duke of Sussex will attend the Coronation Service at Westminster Abbey on 6th May,” the Palace said in a brief statement.

“The Duchess of Sussex will remain in California with Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.”

Harry took his time to respond to his father’s invitation as many speculated that the second born son to the King wasn’t going to come.

But, after issuing a string of so-called demands, Harry will be making an appearance next month.

It’s thought that the Duke of Sussex made seven requests, but so far only three have been met.

Talks with his father, King Charles

Harry’s thought to have had this demand met and is said to have wanted to speak to his father ahead of the Coronation and, while they haven’t chatted face-to-face, they’re said to have conversed either over the phone or email.

Speaking to The Telegraph in recent days, a friend said that the father and son had “positive conversations” about the upcoming star-studded event.

“It is about showing up, showing support and being there for his father,” another source said.

“It was a very personal decision, not a PR one.”

Elsewhere, an insider told The Sun that there is a “willingness and wanting to mend on both sides” following their chat.

Talks with his estranged brother, Prince William

While Harry’s spoken to his dad, he isn’t thought to have chatted to Prince William amid the two brother’s ongoing rift.

Ingrid Seward, editor of Majesty Magazine, told The Sun: “Out of politeness you’d think Harry would want to mingle with his family no matter how difficult that might be for him.

“They all have really tight schedules but it would be nice to stick around and be friendly.”

She added: “I’m glad he has spoken to his father, which has eased the path to rapprochement. Charles will welcome his son. I think his relationship with William is for another time.”

Meanwhile, another royal expert thinks that William won’t even look in his brother’s direction over the course of the celebrations.

Ending the toxic atmosphere

This demand hasn’t been met either. It’s undeniable that there’s been a strain on Harry’s relationship with his family since he decided to up sticks and relocate to the US with Meghan, but Harry doesn’t want a repeat of the awkwardness at the late Queen Elizabeth’s funeral last year.

However, it’s believed that many royals have "no interest" in talking to Harry "beyond basic greetings", the Mirror reports.

Meghan Markle invite to Coronation

This demand was met, with both Harry and Meghan being invited to the Coronation.

In the wake of Meghan deciding to stay in America to look after their kids, the King is said to be disappointed that she won’t be there for his big day, but also understands her position.

Noting that he Coronation lands on the same day as Harry and Meghan’s son Archie’s fourth birthday, Jennie Bond told us: “Now that we know that he's coming, I'm very glad that he is coming to what is probably the most important day in his father's life – it would have been churlish not to do so.

"I think this was always the best compromise, particularly given that Archie's fourth birthday that he should come and Meghan should not."

Archie’s birthday recognition

It remains unclear if Archie’s birthday will be addressed at the King’s Coronation, particularly as he won’t be with his grandson on the day.

Apparently the Sussexes “asked for some kind of celebration or acknowledgement to be factored into the day’s plans to ensure that his fourth birthday won’t get lost during the momentous day”, a source told us last month, but it’s unknown if this will happen.

Security detail

Harry has reportedly been told his security requests will be met and that the Duke of Sussex will be protected while attending royal events over the duration of the Coronation festivities.

He will have to provide his own security detail for events outside of royal engagements, however.

Featuring on the balcony with the rest of the family

The Duke of Sussex will not appear on the balcony alongside his father and brother, it’s believed. Only working royals will be up there alongside the King.

According to detailed plans obtained by the Mirror, 15 members of the family will feature on the balcony, including William, Kate Middleton and their three children.

Doubling down on this, royal expert Tessa Dunlop told us that “if you have Harry (on the balcony) then they would have to have everyone else".
