S Club 7’s Jo O’Meara welcomes new addition to family as she rescues dog from Romania

Jo O'Meara has welcomed a new addition to her family.

The S Club 7 star, 43, has shared with fans she has rescued a dog from Romania.

She posted a video to Instagram, revealing the news to her 46.7k followers and documenting the moment she met her new dog, a seven-year-old Pekinese called Sisi.

The caption read: "So today something amazing happened ! The wonderful @victoriapearcewriter told myself and @cindylazarus about a little girl who needed rehoming , she was a street dog in Romania and then was rescued by a wonderful lady , but sadly things changed and she needed to be rehomed."

She continued: "It's taken her 3 days of travelling through Europe to get to this point , along with others , who have been fostered and adopted , the second we see the picture it was already a done deal And we knew she was coming to live with us !

"She is the sweetest girl And Wilson And Wilma have adapted to her already ! The work the @thek9angels are doing is just incredible, I am truly honoured to be a part of something so wonderful and rewarding !

"Welcome to the family little sissy our actual K9 Angel #adoptdontshop," with angel and black heart emojis.

In the clip of Jo meeting her new dog for the first time, Sisi is visibly distressed, nervous and shaking.

However, Jo quickly reassured her and wrapped her up warm in her coat.

Jo's happy news comes amid recent health issues, during which she feared she may never be able to dance – or even walk properly – again.

In 2002, Jo injured her back on tour with S Club, with doctors telling her she had two bulged discs. She took steroids to get through the group's routines, and put the injuries down to the touring lifestyle.

However, two decades later, the injury flared up. Jo had to endure four operations to have part of a slipped disc removed, which left her in absolute agony as recently as November 2022.

Speaking to The Sun, she revealed that due to the surgeries she has permanent damage to her right leg, and will require regular physio.

She said: "It was like someone had shot me in the bum, my whole body went into shock. I thought I was having a convulsion. The very first thing I did was call an ambulance.

"Back surgery is so complex and every time they go in, they're just weakening my back. I was absolutely petrified.

"The surgeons said there was a very good chance of permanent damage to the legs and that I might never dance again. I was thinking, 'Well, that's me done then', because standing up on stage and singing Reach is kind of impossible if you can't move."

Since her surgeries, S Club 7 have officially announced a 25th anniversary tour, kicking off in October.
