Serena Williams Admits Her Marriage to Alexis Ohanian Isn’t “Bliss,” Unless They Work for It

Serena Williams got real about what makes a lasting marriage.

Per People, the tennis superstar revealed a few glimpses into her marriage with entrepreneur Alexis Ohanian while participating in a round of Bumble’s The Question Game. During the rapid-fire Q&A, Williams admitted that it takes “work” behind the scenes to keep a marriage going.

“Marriage is not bliss. But it can be if you work at it,” she said when asked about lessons she’s learned after tying the knot. The athlete added, “A dealbreaker for me in a relationship is definitely loyalty. Well, not having it, that is.”

Williams and Ohanian married in 2017 in a lavish New Orleans ceremony, complete with a high-profile guest list that included Beyoncé, Kim Kardashian West, and Anna Wintour. The couple also share a daughter, three-year-old Alexis Olympia Ohanian Jr. But even though the portrait looks picture-perfect, Williams spoke to heartbreak during the Q&A also.

“Heartbreak is a part of life, whether it be a loved one, a boyfriend, or an animal,” she said. “But time heals all wounds.”

Beyond the Bumble clip, Williams often shares sneak peeks at her family life on social media, especially moments with her daughter. Most recently, the dynamic duo posed together for a spring Stuart Weitzman campaign and had a seemingly impromptu princess-themed photo shoot on their tennis court.
