Tom Hanks rages at fan who almost knocks his wife Rita Wilson over

Tom Hanks was caught raging at a fan in defence of his wife Rita Wilson after she was nearly knocked over after leaving a New York restaurant.

The 65 year old was heard shouting “back the f*** off” as he pushed away the overzealous suspect, who had bashed into Rita, 65, from behind in an attempt to get an autograph from the Castaway star as the pair entered the streets.

Rita was seen in a clip from the incident looking panicked as she stumbled on the streets following the collision and raised her hands yelling: “stop it!”

Tom then turned around and checked on his wife, before he shouted: "That is my wife. Back the f**k off”, before furiously adding: "Knocking over my wife?"

The Hollywood couple had been swarmed by cameras and fans as they left a Midtown restaurant, making it difficult for the pair to walk to their car which was only a few feet away from the door.

The gathered crowd appeared shocked at Tom’s reaction momentarily, before showing the actor empathy for the situation, as one person was heard saying: “come on, man”, while another added: “what are they doing out here?"

Tom and Rita have been married 34 years and share two sons Chet, 31, and Truman Hanks, 25.

They had enjoyed dinner after watching a screening of Tom’s new film Elvis which will be released in the UK on 24 June.

The actor’s angry defence of his wife comes after he was seen shaking at the movie premiere in Sydney Australia, sparking concern from fans.

Tom’s left hand appeared to tremble as he used it to hold a microphone, before switching hands while making a speech.

The legendary film star became one of the first celebrities, along with his wife Rita, to test positive for Covid-19 in March 2020.

Tom told fans at the time: “Hello, folks. Rita and I are down here in Australia. We felt a bit tired, like we had colds, and some body aches. Rita has some chills that came and went. Slight fevers too.

“To play things right, as is needed in the world right now, we were tested for the Coronavirus, and were found to be positive.”

Speaking about his marriage in 2019, Tom told US Weekly: "We got married, we committed to each other, we love each other and we work hard at our relationship.

"Not only do we love each other, we really like each other, and we like being together, and we support each other and we keep the communication channels open. That’s always important."
