CM directs DJB to resolve water issues in Malviya Nagar

‘Simplify process for water connection’

Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday directed the Delhi Jal Board to resolve all water-related problems in Malviya Nagar and make the process of getting new water connections easier.

Mr. Kejriwal, who is also the DJB chairman, further directed officials during a review meeting to restart 100 tubewells that are currently non-functional in the area. “One of the main issues raised was the water supply in the area after the services were given to the Malviya Nagar Water Services [MNWS] by the previous government,” an official statement said.

Though the MNWS was introduced with a purpose of 24-hour water supply in the area, it has been able to supply water only for three hours a day, the statement said. The CM directed the DJB to make arrangements so that the people in MNWS area get adequate water supply. Mr. Kejriwal directed the officials to take all corrective measures.“We should augment supply of water and take all steps required. No colony should face problem of water,” the CM said.

The meeting was attended by AAP Malviya Nagar MLA Somnath Bharti, DJB CEO Nikhil Kumar and other senior officials of the Board.

The issue of water supply problems in the areas of Malvia Nagar such as Hauz Rani, Kumhar basti, K-Block Green Park Extension, Begumpur, Brahman basti, Krishna Nagar, B-4 Safdarjung Enclave were raised during the meeting by Mr. Bharti.

“Providing water to the people is our duty. We should not have any complex rules for getting new water connections. We must make it as simple as possible… please work it out,” the CM told DJB officials.
