Four held for possessing country-made firearms

The special branch police arrested four persons on Saturday for possessing firearms without licence.

Based on the information received by the Superintendent of Police, Vellore district, special teams conducted search operations and arrested four people for possessing illegal country-made weapons.

The names of the accused were Chinnasamy, 40, from Peenjamandai village, Alagesan, 25, and Kullaiyan, 32, from Thongumalai village, areas which fall under Veppankan Kuppam police station limit under Ambur sub-division.

One more person Muniraj was held on charges of making and repairing country-made weapons in Goripallam mountain area in the Thimmampettai police station limit.

In the jurisdiction of the Tiruppathur taluk police station, two country-made weapons were seized. The accused would be arrested soon, police said.

No one should possess firearms without proper permission, said District Superintendent of Police Pravesh Kumar.

“If anyone is found to possess country-made weapon without licence, they should hand it over at police station. Those who violate the rules would be imprisoned,” he said.
