Govt. to amend bylaws for fund transfer from KEA

In the past, Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) authorities have been in a fix over how to utilise funds collected from students who register for the Common Entrance Test. The State government now plans to amend the bylaws of KEA to allow transfer or divert funds from the authority to educational institutions.

Higher Education Minister G.T. Devegowda said around ₹266 crore was with the KEA. “It can be used to develop infrastructure at State-run engineering colleges,” he said. We will place the amendment in the Legislative Assembly and council in the next session,” he added.

This is not the first time that the Karnataka government has attempted to address the issue. Former Higher Education Minister Basavaraj Rayareddy had asked the KEA to divert the funds towards the construction of new government engineering colleges in north Karnataka. It did not materialise at the time owing to legal complications.
