Keep abreast of changes in industry, students told

ALC launches certificate programme in banking, finance

Students need to equip themselves with the rapidly changing demands of the industry, said Amrita Nawal, Senior Manager, Bajaj Finserv Limited, Mumbai, here on Tuesday.

She was addressing a meeting organised by the Department of Commerce and Employability Skills Centre of Andhra Loyola College (ALC) at the launch of a Certificate Programme in Banking, Finance and Insurance (CPBFI) offered by her organisation as part of a collaboration with the ALC.

She advised them to focus on potential sectors such as banking, finance and insurance. She said students should move away from the rote model of learning to secure good marks. “The industry is looking for candidates who can think critically, analyse situations and provide solutions.

Citing a gap between the demand and supply, she said “this certificate course is expected to fill this gap.”

‘Interactive model’

Throwing more light on the course, she said it would be more of an interactive model which would take the students out of their comfort zone to learn about things that are needed by the industry and added: “The emphasis will be on communication skills and participatory learning.”

ALC Principal Rev. Fr. G.M. Victor Immanuel presided over the meeting while Vice-Principal Fr. Melchior, Head of the Department of Commerce Veeraiah Chowdary, coordinator of Employability Skills Centre G. Sahaya Bhaskaran and Director, RARE Academy Rajasekhara Reddy besides students were present.
