Metro rail, six-lane beach road on top of agenda: MP-elect

‘Will try to build more water reservoirs in summer’

MP-elect M.V.V. Satyanarayana on Tuesday said pursuing metro rail project, ensuring 24×7 drinking water supply and wooing investors to make the city as a software and IT hub would remain on top of his agenda.

In a meet-the-press programme organised by Vizag Journalists Forum here, he thanked people for electing him as MP and said widening the Anakapalle and Anandapuram State highway into 80 metres to decongest traffic and developing a six-lane road on Beach Road from RK Beach in the city to Bhogapuram parallel to the National Highway would be taken up on a priority.

He said he met his predecessor and former MP K. Haribabu to know about the status of various projects and sought his support to pursue them.

“Some of the projects will be cleared immediately as YSRCP is the ruling party in the State. The TDP government had delayed them under some pretext or the other,” he said.

Mr. Satyanarayana said he would put pressure on the Centre to ground the metro rail project in association with the State government at the earliest as the city was emerging as one of the biggest cosmopolitan cities. He said the IT Park developed at Rushikonda during the regime of late Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy would soon become a beehive of activity by convincing more software and hardware companies to invest. On severe drinking water problem in the city, he said during summer more storage was required and he would try to build more reservoirs so as to overcome water scarcity. He said bringing Godavari waters would solve the problem.

On construction of international airport at Bhogapuram, he said the construction work should be launched on a fast-track basis. Connectivity was the key factor to make Visakhapatnam a prominent industrial and IT hub.
