Says river should be conserved by involving people
Palakkad MP-elect V.K. Sreekantan said here on Monday that he would strive to bring about a comprehensive development in agriculture, tourism and industry by chalking out special projects.
Addressing a meet-the-press organised by Palakkad Press Club, Mr. Sreekantan said that special emphasis would be given to the Bharathapuzha.
He said the river would be conserved by involving the people and would be linked with major drinking projects in Palakkad.
Sand-mining and encroachments in the Bharathapuha will be ended with the help of the people, he said. “A project will be chalked out exclusively for it.,” the MP-elect said.
He said there was no other district in the State that grows a wide variety of crops including, sugarcane, plantain, grapes and orange. “Still, Palakkad is largely ignored. It never got any special package like the ones given to Kuttanad and Idukki,” he said.
