Tamil Nadu accident: 8 Ayyappa devotees killed

Tamil Nadu accident: 10 Ayyappa devotees, hailing from Sanmugasundarapuram village near Andipatti, were headed home after visiting Sabarimala when their car met with an accident. This accident took place yesterday night. 2 people seriously injured and they have  been admitted to the hospital and are being treated. Among these is a 3-year-old child. 8 Ayyappa devotees died after a car fell into a ditch in Theni district on the border of Kerala and Tamil Nadu on Friday night. According to District Collector KV Muralidharan, a tragedy occurred in Kumili Parvat area, and the car carrying Ayyappa devotees fell into a ditch about 40 feet deep. All the passengers in the car were residents of Theni-Andipetti. Police said there were a total of ten people in the car when the accident occurred.

7 people died on the spot in the accident. 1 person died en route to hospital.  The police have registered a case regarding this accident and are continuing the investigation. The road was not visible due to heavy fog in this area. It is suspected that this may be the main reason for the accident.

For the last two years, Sabarimala Ayyappa Swami Yatra was restricted due to Covid-19. Now that the restrictions have been lifted, thousands of devotees are visiting the holy site every day. Devotees from different states of India come for this pilgrimage Mandalam-Makaravilakku.  10 to 15 lakh people visit Sabarimala every year.
