KPCC launches day-long hunger strike at Kottamaidan in Palakkad

All India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretary K.C. Venugopal described the death of the two minor sisters at Attappallam, which caused the sensational Walayar case, as incident that had startled the conscience of the world.

Inaugurating a day-long hunger strike staged by the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president Mullappally Ramachandran at Kottamaidan here on Monday, Mr. Venugopal said that the government had hoodwinked the people by conducting a superficial investigation.

“People were in shock on hearing the verdict of the case,” he said.

Criminal negligence

“The Child Welfare Committee, the Social Justice Department, and the police have to shoulder the responsibility for the culprits of the Walayar case going scot-free,” he said. Alleging a higher level conspiracy, Mr. Venugopal said that the Child Welfare Committee had become an agent of conspiracy.

He said an investigation should be conducted into the Child Welfare Committees in all districts.
