In the last few days, we saw Vijay Sethupathi facing backlash from pro-Tamil groups for signing Muthiah Muralidaran biopic and ultimately due to criticism, the actor recently quit the project. And under the disguise of this controversy a netizen threatened on Twitter of raping Vijay Sethupathi’s daughter. Now the case has been registered against that person and we IPS of Chennai police confirmed that the legal action has started by tweeting, “There has been lot of concern in social media regarding comments made in social media against a celebrity. On receipt of complaint to this effect a case in Cyber Cell has been registered.”

The actor recently shared a statement on Instagram, where the legendary spinner requested him to quit the project. It reads, “I’m writing this due to the controversies surrounding the making of my biopic. It came to my notice that many people have been pressing hard against Vijay Sethupathi to walk out of 800 the movie. Therefore, I do not wish to spoil the career of a reputed artiste of Tamil Nadu. Besides, I foresee the unnecessary obstacles that Vijay Sethupathi might face in the future. Hereby, I request Vijay Sethupathi to quit the film.”

He added, “There have been many allegations levelled against me that I supported genocide. For instance, when I made a statement in 2019 that 2009 was the best year of my life, it was misconstrued that I was celebrating the genocide of Eelam Tamils. As someone who has constantly spent his life in a conflict-zone, the end of the war in 2009, was a welcome change. I was happy that there were no deaths on both sides in those ten years. I have never supported genocide, and I never will. As a minority community living in Sinhalese-majority Sri Lanka, Tamils battled low self- esteem. My parents considered themselves as second-class citizens and it was only natural that I too followed suit. After I succeeded in cricket, I wanted fellow Tamilians to develop self confidence and come up in life.”
