Water level in Papanasam dam on Monday stood at 134 feet (permissible level is 143 ft.), with an inflow of 390.58 cusecs and a discharge of 1,013.50 cusecs. The level in Manimuthar dam was 113.90 ft. (118 ft.), with an inflow of 88 cusecs and a discharge of 445 cusecs.

Additional coach for Bengaluru train

Train Number 07235 KSR Bengaluru – Nagercoil Junction Daily Special via Salem, Madurai and Tirunelveli has been augmented with an additional 2-tier AC coach from Monday, February 8, till March 1. In the return direction, train number 07236 Nagercoil Junction – KSR Bengaluru Special will have the additional coach from February 9 to March 2, a statement said.

CII commends Tamil Nadu government

Hari Thiagarajan, chairman of Confederation of Indian Industry’s Tamil Nadu State Council called on Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami on Monday at the Secretariat to hand over a letter of commendation, which appreciated the steps being taken by the Tamil Nadu government in improving the socio-economic indicators in the State, according to an official release. Canara Bank reduces interest rates

Canara Bank has reduced its Marginal Cost of Funds Based Lending Rate (MCLR) on loans and advances by 10 basis points for overnight and one month tenor with effect from February 7, 2021.

According to a Canara Bank release, the tenor and interest rates are: Overnight and one month MCLR, 6.7%, three months MCLR, 6.95%, six months MCLR, 7.3% and one year MCLR, 7.35%.

Yatri Nivas to reopen for guests

The Yatri Nivas run by the Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple would reopen for guests from Wednesday.

The Yatri Nivas, situated at Panchakarai in the temple town, had remained closed in view of the pandemic. Reservations will be open for accommodation at the Yatri Nivas and visitors are requested to make bookings online, a temple press release said.

Congress MLC candidates announced

The Congress party has announced the candidates for the Graduate MLC elections to be held soon and the list was released by the India Congress Committee general secretary Mukul Wasnik.

Former minister and AICC secretary G. Chinna Reddy will be the candidate for the Hyderabad-Rangareddy-Mahabubnagar constituency while former MLC Ramulu Naik will be the candidate for Nalgonda-Khammam-Warangal constituency.

CM criticises Dhinakaran

Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami said AMMK general secretary T.T.V. Dinakaran was trying to seize power from the AIADMK. “He was not in the party for ten years. After former Chief Minister Jayalalithaa’s death, he said he had rejoined the party and lured away 18 MLAs, and then left them in no-man’s land. Those who go after him will meet the same fate,” he said.

Bangar is RCB batting consultant

Former India all-rounder Sanjay Bangar has been appointed as the batting consultant of Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) for IPL 2021, the club announced on Wednesday.

Bangar has previously served as the batting coach for the Indian team, and as head coach of IPL team Kings XI Punjab.

IT raids in Tindivanam

The office and residence of a civil contractor were searched

Income Tax officials on Thursday conducted searches at the office and residence of a civil contractor in Tindivanam near here.

Sources said that a five-member team carried out raids at the premises and office of D.K. Kumar, a leading civil contractor for government work in Poonthottam in Tindivanam.

The search is still continuing.

Karur Vysya Bank Q3 profit jumps to ₹35 crore

Karur Vysya Bank’s standalone profit for the quarter ended December more than doubled to ₹35 crore. Net interest margin remained flat at 3.29% and net interest income contracted to ₹197 crore from ₹215 crore, the bank said. Gross NPAs declined to 7.37% from 8.92%, while net NPAs declined to 2.55% from 4.13%. Provision coverage ratio improved to 77.35% from 65.43%.

Youth Commission adalat

The Kerala State Youth Commission will hold a district adalat in Kozhikode on February 12.

A release said that those aged between 18 and 40 may submit complaints at the event which will begin at 11 a.m. at the PWD rest house conference hall.

Police ban operation of drones

The Kochi City police have banned the operation of all kinds of drones with immediate effect in view of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the city on Sunday.

District Police Chief (Kochi City) C.H. Nagaraju issued the orders in view of the security protocol that will kick in with the visit of the VVIP. The ban will be in place till February 15.
