There will be power shutdown in the following areas served by K. Pudur substation between 8 a.m. and 11 a.m. on August 10, Saturday, on account of monthly maintenance work to be undertaken by Tangedco:

Holiday for educational institutions
District Collector has declared holiday for all educational institutions in Ernakulam, including professional colleges, on Friday in view of the continuing rains. The holiday is applicable for schools under CBSE, ISCE and ISE streams; Kendriya Vidyalayas and anganwadis.
Airport operations suspended

Former MP Anbarasu dead
Former Congress MP R. Anbarasu died in Chennai on Thursday. He was elected to Parliament thrice.
“Anbarasu worked under the leadership of Indira Gandhi, Rajiv Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi for development of the party. He worked hard for upliftment of the backward classes,” Tamil Nadu Congress Committee president K.S. Alagiri said in a statement, condoling the death.
Man drowns in Mattannur
The torrential rain and flooding in the district has claimed one life.
A 54-year-old man drowned after falling into a canal in the vicinity of his house at Mattannur. The polce said the victim had been identified as K. Padamanabhan, resident of Kuzhikkal. The accident happened around 11 a.m. on Thursday.

Flight diverted to Tiruchi
A Kochi-bound Air Asia flight from Kuala Lumpur was diverted to the Tiruchi international airport in the late hours on Thursday due to heavy rain and bad weather condition at Kochi airport which was closed.
Airport sources said flight AK-39 with nearly 160 passengers landed at the Tiruchi airport at around 11.10 p.m. The passengers left the airport after completion of immigration and other formalities.
