Traffic restrictions on Oct.15

Traffic restrictions will be in place around Mysuru palace from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. on October 15, Vijayadashami.

Movement of all types of vehicles barring vehicles carrying VIPs and VVIPs and security personnel has been banned on the roads around the palace. Parking of vehicles will also not be allowed.

New HC judges sworn in

Four new High Court Judges were sworn in on Wednesday by Chief Justice S. Manikumar.

The newly sworn-in additional judges are Justices C. Jayachandran, Sophy Thomas, P. G. Ajithkumar and C.S. Sudha.

With their swearing-in, the total strength of the judges in the Kerala High Court has gone up to 41 and the number of women judges to six.

Cuddalore logs 20 cases

Cuddalore district recorded nil deaths due to COVID-19 on Sunday. As many as 20 persons tested positive for the infection, taking the district’s tally to 63,813. The district saw 62,669 recoveries and 280 were active cases.

In Villupuram district, 11 persons tested positive, taking the total number of positive cases to 45,699.

Kallakurichi district reported 15 positive cases, taking the overall tally to 31,217.

Priest held for abusing minor girl

The Ernakulam Rural District Crime Branch arrested a priest who was accused of sexually abusing a minor girl.

The arrested is Sibi Varghese, 32, of Varapuzha. He was a co-vicar at a church in Kochi. He had been hiding in various States.

A team led by district Crime Branch DySP V. Rajeev made the arrest.

Tank operator murdered

A 53-year-old man was hacked to death at Thiru Nagar near Auroville on Thursday night. The deceased was identified as Manivannan of Kamaraj Nagar in Puducherry.

Police said the victim worked as a tank operator in Thiru Nagar in Villupuram district and lived with his family in Puducherry.

On Thursday evening, Manivannan went to Thiru Nagar, when a gang waylaid and hacked him to death.

Woman found dead near Thirukazhukundram

The police recovered the body of a 38-year-old woman, who was found dead under suspicious circumstances, in a village near Thirukazhukundram in Chengalpattu.

The deceased was identified as Jyothi, wife of Ramu, of Vadakkupattu village, in Kothimangalam. Investigation is under way.

Shankar Jiwal discharged

City Police Commissioner Shankar Jiwal was discharged from hospital on Sunday after three days of treatment for chest pain.

Mr. Jiwal complained of chest pain on Thursday afternoon, and was immediately admitted to Apollo Hospitals, Greames Road. His condition was stable after treatment.

On Sunday, he was discharged and was greeted by police officers. He will resume regular work soon.

Water level in Periyar dam on Friday stood at 135.45 feet (maximum permissible level is 142 ft.) with an inflow of 3,805 cusecs and a discharge of 1,954 cusecs. In Vaigai dam, the level was 56.92 ft. (71 ft.) with an inflow of 2,597 cusecs and a discharge of 1,119 cusecs. Combined storage in Periyar credit was 7,535 mcft.
