Champions League final will be held in Porto instead of Istanbul

UEFA has moved this month’s Champions League final between Manchester City and Chelsea to Porto from Istanbul, according to two sources from the Turkish Football Federation.

The sources said Turkey was expecting to host the Champions League final in 2023 in Istanbul, as part of the agreement with the UEFA.

The UK government placed Turkey on its travel ‘red list’ on Friday, effectively ruling out the opportunity for supporters of the English clubs to attend the game. Portugal was placed on its “green list” from May 17, which means fans of the English clubs would be free to travel to the game.

Spaniard Mateu Lahoz to referee Champions League final

Spanish referee Antonio Mateu Lahoz will take charge of his first Champions League final when Chelsea face Manchester City on May 29, UEFA said on Wednesday.

The 44-year-old served as a fourth official at the 2019 final between Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur.

Mateu Lahoz officiated in six Champions League ties this season, including the quarter-final first-leg match between Bayern Munich and Paris St Germain.

He will be assisted by countrymen Pau Cebrian Devis and Roberto Diaz Perez del Palomar.

Mateu Lahoz has also made the list of referees for this year’s European Championship.
