Tanmay enjoys Indian challenge

Tripura batsman has done well in his first domestic season

The Vijay Hazare Trophy tournament can be a launch pad for an international career. But, there is one cricketer who made his debut in the tournament after playing 42 ODIs and a World Cup.

Tanmay Mishra hasn’t done badly in India’s premier one-day tournament, either. Playing for Tripura, the Kenyan international scored 374 runs at an average of 46.75, with a hundred and four fifties.

Grateful to TCA

“I am glad that I have got this opportunity,” the 32-year-old told The Hindu here. “I am grateful to the Tripura Cricket Association which selected me for this tournament.”

He is happy that he could repay the faith in him by scoring big for Tripura.

“It is gratifying to know that I have been able to make those runs against quality bowlers, many of whom have played for India.”

Tanmay, who has 1,128 ODI runs at an average of 34.18, is impressed by the quick bowlers he faced in the competition.

“Some of them like Ishwar Pandey and Kuldeep Sen of Madhya Pradesh and Ishan Porel and Akash Deep of Bengal, were generating good pace,” he said.

Tanmay, who hails from Mumbai, is looking forward with hope for the rest of the season too, with the Mushtaq Ali and Ranji Trophy tournaments coming up. He is disappointed though that Kenya, where he played most of his cricket, isn’t as strong as it used to be.

“I think lack of support from the other countries is one of the main reasons for that,” he said. “There were a lot of issues within the domestic circles as well.”
