Coronation Street’s James Burrows and girlfriend Sophie welcome first baby

Coronation Street's James Burrows has announced his girlfriend Sophie Coates has given birth to their first baby.

The actor revealed the happy news with a low-key announcement on Instagram, sharing a snap of them hugging each other at a pub table.

"Out with my beautiful girlfriend  @sophie_coates  baby free for a few hours while nana and grandad look after her #happyness ," he captioned the sweet picture.

Sophie also posted this week a picture of two coffees and a piece of mouthwatering cake, telling followers of her glee at being off work.

"MATERNITY LEAVE LYFE XOXOX #cakeandababy#cakesonaplane #babycakes," she wrote.

As yet, the new parents haven't said whether their newborn is a boy or a girl, nor have they unveiled the name they've chosen.

The pair told fans of Sophie's pregnancy back in October 2018.

The actor, who plays Ali Neeson in the ITV soap, took to Instagram to break the happy news.

Sharing a picture of a scan, he told his fans: "Me and my beautiful girlfriend @sophie_coates are over the moon to announce that we’re having a baby. We can not contain our excitement we are so so happy x."

The happy news came as his life in Coronation Street took a sinister turn.

Dr Ali left fans horrified as he murdered evil gangster Ronan Truman, who had attempted to kill 'brother' Ryan Connor.

The crime boss mowed Ryan down before reversing into Leanne Battersby, leaving them to die on the road as he sped away.

But he immediately got his comeuppance as he lost control of his car and was sent crashing into a rusty old fence.
