Heartbroken 24 Hours in A&E viewers in tears as patient dies after filming stop

Heartbroken 24 Hours in A&E viewers were left in tears tonight after it was revealed a patient had died after filming.

Edwin Jukes, 77, was rushed to St George's Hospital with severe bleeding from a tumour in his neck – with paramedics describing it as a "bloodbath".

As the medics examined the wound, his partner Jeanette revealed how their romance blossomed in later life and discussed coping with his devastating tongue cancer diagnosis.

Jeanette lost her first husband, then nine years later had a second chance at love with Edwin.

At the end of the traumatic episode, Ed's family sat at his bedside while an on-screen message explained that he remained in hospital for seven days.

Jeanette said: "He had quite a few bleeds and then they came to talk to us about a hospice or what do we want to do. I said I want you home and he said 'I want to come home'.

Best friend Keith admitted he was hoping for a "miracle" and that Edwin would make it.

However, Jeanette revealed that she realised something was "different" and she called the nurses to come.

Emotional Keith said: "At that point I was angry with the world. One of the best people in the world was about to be taken from me.

Breaking down in tears Jeanette said: "Then suddenly he died. He died."

Keith admitted he could not have coped with what "brave" Jeanette was put through and vowed to become her "wing man".

She said: "I miss him terribly. I miss his presence, his laughing, his cross-wording. This sounds crazy, creeping up behind me in the kitchen and making me jmup. I miss everything about him, everything."

Devastated viewers took to Twitter after watching the heartbreaking episode.

One viewer said: "24 Hours in A&E has tipped me over the edge tonight. Absolutely balling. Heartbreaking"

"Jeanette, you broke my heart! Wishing you all the love in the world," added another.

A third agreed: "Gosh that was heartbreaking , poor Edwin and his family"

"Oh I do feel so sad for Jeanette. She' seems such a wonderful, loving lady.  Lots of love to her.  RIP Ed," said a fourth.
