Ranbir Kapoor’s TOP 10 HITS

As Ranbir Kapoor turns 38 on September 28, one looks forward to his contribution to cinema in the years to come.

If not for the coronavirus pandemic, Ranbir would have returned with Shamshera and Brahmastra in 2020, two years after Sanju.

Joginder Tuteja celebrates Ranbir’s birthday by looking at his top 10 hits.

Sanju

In THE Sanjay Dutt biopic, directed by Raj Kumar Hirani, Ranbir made sure that he delivered his career-best performance.

Ae Dil Hai Mushkil
Box office collection: Rs 112.5 crore

Ranbir’s partnership with Dharma Productions continued with Ae Dil Hai Mushkil and this time, Karan Johar himself directed it.

It didn’t turn out to be as big a success as many expected it to be, but the romantic drama with Anushka Sharma and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan was a clean hit nonetheless.

Barfi!
Box office collection: Rs 112 crore

Critically acclaimed and commercially successful, Barfi! remains a prestigious entry in the repertoire built by Ranbir in his 13-year long career.

It wasn’t an easy role, but Ranbir’s talent ensured that he nailed the part along with Priyanka Chopra and Ileana D’Cruz.

Raajneeti
Box office collection: Rs 93.66 crore

Despite being a multi-starrer that boasted of the powerful presence of Ajay Devgn, Nana Patekar and Manoj Bajpayee, Prakash Jha’s Raajneeti benefited from the presence of the young kid on the block, Ranbir Kapoor.

He impressed everyone in his serious avatar.

Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahaani
Box office collection: Rs 64.60 crore

Though one has heard stories of Ranbir not quite being confident of how Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahaani would work at the box office, it seems rather surprising since Raj Kumar Santoshi’s directorial was a breezy affair all the way.

Moreover, Pritam’s songs were of chartbuster quality as well and the chemistry between Ranbir-Katrina was impressive.

Result? A solid superhit.

Rockstar
Box office collection: Rs 67.50 crore

Over time, Rockstar has achieved cult status for itself. But at the time of release, it was just a decent success.

Director Imtiaz Ali put together a surreal story of a desi sufi rockstar and Ranbir grasped the role quite well.

Anjaana Anjaani
Box office collection: Rs 45 crore

Contrary to much misconception, Anjaana Anjaani was a decent success at the box office.

It wasn’t a clean hit but it hadn’t flopped either, and made money for everyone involved.

The team of co-star Priyanka Chopra, Producer Sajid Nadiadwala, Director Siddharth Anand and Composers Vishal-Shekhar and Ranbir made their work appeal to the youth.

Bachna Ae Haseeno
Box office collection: Rs 38 crore

Before Anjaana Anjaani, Ranbir Kapoor and Siddharth Anand had first collaborated for Bachna Ae Haseeno and the film had turned out to be a good hit.

Ranbir needed it after the disastrous response to his debut film, Saawariya.

Yash Raj Films made sure that Ranbir got the right platform and his jodi with Deepika Padukone was loved by the audience.

Wake Up Sid
Box office collection: Rs 30 crore

Ranbir has always peppered his hardcore commercial films with some offbeat affairs and other than Rocket Singh: Salesman of the Year (a good film that flopped), he also did Wake Up Sid.

This was his first collaboration with Ayan Mukerji, one of the many coming-of-age films that he did in his career.
