The British actress, 25, and co-star Scarlett Johansson have helped make the Marvel action movie a smash, earning more than £225million in box-office revenue and hundreds of millions more from Disney Plus streams.

Florence said: “There is not one kiss in our movie. I think we’re bored of seeing women play that as their only purpose – just being there as the snog.

“We have got over the fear of what are we going to do if there is no love interest? And I love that.”

She added: “The film is just as shocking, powerful and emotional as if there were this big love romance in the middle.”

Directed by Cate Shortland, Black Widow sees Florence play Yelena Belova, a surrogate sister to Scarlett’s title role, trained in the same deadly ways and by the same deadly people.

Speaking about playing a non-conventional character, Florence said: “You have to be aware of what is going to happen. That is why it was so important for me to make Elena look different. When you are in this spotlight kids will aspire to be like them. I always wanted to be in the Bourne Identity films, so when we got to do all this hand-to-hand combat I was like, ‘Oh my god, I’m in one’.”
