Chris Cornell’s Family Reaches Settlement With Doctor Who Prescribed Him Drugs

Chris Cornell‘s family has reached a settlement with the doctor who the family claims overprescribed drugs to the late Soundgarden frontman before his death.

According to Rolling Stone, Cornell’s widow Vicky and their children Toni and Christopher Nicholas reached a settlement with Robert Koblin M.D. last month.

“After years of litigation and settlement negotiations, Plaintiffs and Defendants Robert Koblin, M.D., Robert Koblin, M.D., Inc. and Robertson Cardiovascular Center, LLC (collectively, ‘Defendants’) have reached a confidential settlement agreement to resolve all claims asserted by each Plaintiff,” the Cornell family lawyer Melissa Lerner stated in the sealed documents.

The lawsuit, which was filed in November 2018, claimed Koblin prescribed Cornell over 940 doses of the anti-anxiety drug Lorazepam between September 2015 and May 2017. Cornell died in May 2017 at the age of 52 by suicide.

The Cornell family had sued Koblin for negligence, failure to obtain informed consent and willful misconduct.

Coroner’s investigators had ruled Cornell’s death a suicide by hanging. However, tests had showed the presence of lorazepam and a few other drugs in Cornell’s system, but they were not a factor in his death.
