Chris Evans: Virgin Radio host slams coronavirus advice ‘I don’t think it’s fair!’

Chris Evans, 53, begged the government to tell the public “what to do” after Prime Minister Boris Johnson encouraged people not to visit pubs, bars and cinema’s as the UK goes into lockdown to tackle to speed of the deadly coronavirus. But amongst all the hysteria and panic, he revealed he doesn’t think the masters information is “fair”.

“Tell us what to do, then we’ll do it!” he pleaded, as he kept his listeners up to date with the pandemic.

“We’ll do why we think is best anyway, but we still need to be told what to do.

“The pubs and the clubs, and the bars and the cinemas and theatres – they weren’t told to close yesterday. People were just told to sty day from them. I don’t think that’s fair.”

Even thought he disagreed with how the decision was handled, hw was adamant he didn’t want to “score points” with how the UK government are implementing these stringent new measures.

“I’m not trying to score points I promise you I’m not, I’m just saying tell us what to do, tell us what to do!” he exclaimed, begging for some direction.

On Tuesday, Mr Johnson said everyone in the UK should avoid “non-essential” travel and contact with others as the country’s death toll hits 55.

People are advised to work from home where possible, with people who are regarded as at-risk asked to remain in their homes for up to 12 weeks to ensure they are safe.

More than 1,500 people have tested positive for the virus in the UK – but the actual number of cases is estimated to be between 35,000 and 50,000.

With numerous other countries around the world on on totally lock down, panic is rife among the public, as people ru to the shops and stock up on essentials.

This is all well and good until it starts to affect other people.

Chris touched on the panic buying saga that’s take social media by storm, where members of the public have been shaming those who take “more supplies than they need”, leaving more vulnerable people such as the elderly, high and dry for supplies.

“You can panic buy a little bit as long as it doesn’t affect anybody, especially elderly people or people whoa are at high-risk,” he whispered, advising people to be mindful of others at this testing time.

“You can panic buy humous if you want to,” he joked, before letting listeners in on a secret about stocking up.

“A panic buy is alright if no one else wants it, it’s fine only you know you’re panic buying not everyone else!”

The Virgin Radio host revealed his family had a little scare this week after they developed a sniffle.

The father-of-five explained to listeners: “The jury was out on myself, my wife and a couple of pals because we developed a sniffle.

“But, we didn’t have a continuous cough and didn’t have a high temperature.

“I did call work yesterday and said, ‘What do you think?’ and they said, ‘Come into work’.”

Discussing the coronavirus, he warned listeners: “React but don’t overreact, maybe respond is better.”
