Chris Hemsworth to read CBeebies Bedtime story

Chris Hemsworth is set to make his CBeebies debut reading a Bedtime story on the children’s channel, joining a host of other celebrities who have had the delightful honour.

The 38 year old Australian actor is the latest star to sign up for the series and his appearance will see him recite the tale Stormy Night by children’s author, Salina Yoon.

The award-winning author is well known for her popular Penguin series books, as well as other instalments featuring Bear and his toy bunny, Floppy.

Chris will read a story about a bear who is “frightened of the rain and thunder”, which ties neatly in with the title of his new movie Thor: Love and Thunder, which is released in UK cinemas today.

The Marvel star returns to the big screen in the epic sequel playing the God of Thunder himself and stars alongside Natalie Portman, Christian Bale and Tessa Thompson in the hotly-anticipated picture.

Speaking about his upcoming appearance on CBeebies, Chris said: “I love nothing more than reading bedtime stories to my children and it was a joy to get to read Stormy Night, a story about a little bear who is scared of storms.

“Even though I know a thing or two about thunder and lightning, I always feel better when the storm passes.”

The actor follows several other famous names featured on the show, which include The Office’s Steve Carell, Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl, fellow Marvel star and onscreen brother, Tom Hiddleston, and pop star Harry Styles, piling up quite the impressive list.

Chris also joins royal company with his CBeebies appearance, as the Duchess of Cambridge, 40, narrated the modern children’s classic The Owl Who Was Afraid Of The Dark by Jill Tomlinson to mark Children’s Mental Health Week in February of this year.

Director of BBC Children’s and Education, Patricia Hidalgo, said at the time: “I couldn’t be more proud to have the duchess read a CBeebies Bedtime Story as we mark the 20th anniversary of our CBeebies and CBBC channels.

“It’s such a special and relevant tale and perfectly represents this years’ Children’s Mental Health week theme. I can’t wait to see her deliver her own take on such a classic story and I’m sure our audience can’t either.”

Chris Hemsworth’s CBeebies Bedtime Stories episode airs on Friday 8 July at 6.50pm and on CBeebies and BBC iPlayer.
