Coleen and Wayne Rooney slammed for ‘shameful’ photo with captive dolphins

The Rooneys have come under fire after Coleen posted a snap of the pair and their four sons swimming with captive dolphins during a recent lavish holiday to Dubai.

The family was snapped with the animals in the Dolphin Bay lagoon at luxury Dubai resort, Atlantis The Palm Dubai.

Coleen captioned the post: “We had the best Family holiday 2022. Dubai you were fantastic #grateful.”

Some of Coleen's followers were quick to make their feelings known in the comments section of the picture, with one person writing: "No no no please don’t swim with captive dolphins."

Another wrote: "Wonderful holidays but Swimming promoting [dolphin emojis] in cages it’s a [red x emojis]. You should promote the release of all animals in captivity for human amusement. Teaching your boys the good protecting species & keep them in their natural free environment."

Someone else commented: "Swimming with captive dolphins! Shameful! So disappointing! Unfollow."

Their choice of activity has also been slammed by Peter Kempl-Hardy from World Animal Protection.

He said: “Unfortunately, the industry is profiting billions from keeping dolphins in barren, concrete tanks 200,000 times smaller than their natural space.”

Animal protection charity Peta echoed his statements, saying that the dolphins are confined for decades to “tiny, chlorinated tanks and groped by strangers”.

OK! has contacted Wayne and Coleen's representatives for comment.

Some of Coleen's followers were kinder with their comments on the images, with one writing: "It was really lovely to see you and your family at the pool and on the beach, having fun, and Wayne kindly getting his photo taken with my grandson."

Another wrote: "What stunning pictures, so pleased you all had a fantastic holiday, you all deserved it."

Wayne and Coleen jetted off to Dubai on the final day of the infamous Wagatha Christie trial.

The couple made a special apology to the judge as their family holiday began, with Coleen's barrister explaining that the plans had been made before it became clear the trial would run over by one day.

The verdict, which will deem whether or not Coleen is guilty of libel after accusing Rebekah Vardy of leaking stories about her, is expected in the coming weeks.

Wayne and Coleen share four sons together, Kai, 12, Klay, eight, Kit, six, and four year old Cass.

In other holiday snaps, the family were pictured enjoying a boat trip as well as visiting the Souk Madinat Jumeirah and dining in some of Dubai's luxury restaurants.

After returning to the UK, Wayne and Coleen celebrated their 14th wedding anniversary by going to watch Ed Sheeran in concert.
