Dan Walker, 44, is no stranger to putting his quizzing knowledge to the test after taking past in a variety of gameshows including Celebrity Mastermind, The Chase and Pointless. The BBC Breakfast presenter has since taken issue with his countless losses on the quiz programmes.

Dan opened up about his “poor record” on celebrity gameshows as he made a cheeky dig following his brief stint on Pointless.

Speaking on BBC Radio 2’s The Zoe Ball Breakfast Show with Matt Lucas, the Breakfast host shared his dismay of having to travel for several hours only to make a very brief four-minute TV appearance.

It comes after the presenter was asked about his quizzing woes with the British comic.

“I’ve got a very poor record on game shows actually,” Dan commented.

“I once went on a Question of Sport and got trolled for six months for getting a really easy football question wrong.”

The small-screen star then recalled the moment he had to travel for close to 12 hours when he made an appearance on Pointless.

Dan remarked: “I’ve been out in the first round of Pointless twice which equates to 11 hours of travel for just four and half minutes of TV.”

The dad-of-three has appeared on the BBC quiz programme Pointless on two occasions and has not yet managed to get past the first round.

The Breakfast host went on to address his appearances on The Chase and more where he didn’t fare too well with the questioning.

“I once did really well on Celebrity Mastermind but still lost to Martin Lewis by a point,” Dan chuckled.

He continued: “My worst game show moment – and this is a bad one – I currently hold the record for the largest amount of money ever lost on The Chase which is £104,000.

Matt asked: “Was that money going to go to charity?”

Dan replied: “Yes, it was. I did really well in the cash builder, annihilated it. And then Paul Sinha said, ‘We would like to offer you £104,000.’

“I was very confident but on the second question, I was trying to act cool and give him the eye when answering, and got the question wrong and went home.”

“Will you be donating £104,000 of your own money?” Matt cheekily quizzed. “Are you going to put your house on the market?”

He added: “How will you repay the damage?”

The BBC presenter chuckled: “I’ve apologised to the charity.”

Dan is a news anchor of BBC Breakfast and he currently hosts BBC One’s award-winning Football Focus and regularly presents Match of the Day.

More recently, the broadcaster has joined The NFL Show alongside Jason Bell and Osi Umenyiora.

BBC Breakfast airs daily on BBC One at 6am.
