SwimmerEllie Simmonds, who has won five gold medals across three Paralympic Games, made her dancing debut on tonight’s episode ofStrictly Come Dancing with professional partnerNikita Kuzmin.
Taking part in the first live episode tonight, Ellie, 27, was supported by her boyfriend Matt Dean, who watched on proudly from the audience.
The 27 year old has previously revealed that Matt was a huge part of her decision to join the show, saying: “He was like, ‘Go for it, you don’t know unless you try’. Now I’m so happy I said yes.”
Tonight’s show saw Ellie speak a bit more about her relationship, whenClaudia Winklemanasked the swimmer about his cooking.
Claudia said: “We have to mention your partner Matt because he’s never cooked before and now you’re doing Strictly, I believe he’s making you packed lunches, he’s making supper at night.”
To which Ellie replied: “He’s making everything, so yeah, he’s an alright cook,” before joking that she thinks “he could do a bit better".
“He needs to add the vegetables,” she continued: “He keeps forgetting the vegetables and is just giving me carbohydrates!"
Claudia then joked: “Matt if you can hear this, then some broccoli, some peas."
With Ellie interjecting that she would also quite like some spinach.
The camera proceeded to show Matt sat in the audience, who gave a thumbs up in response.
Before making her debut on Strictly, Elliesaid that she’s always loved the show and since she’s been announced as a participant fan response has been great.
She added: “It just gets me emotional really. I’m the first individual with dwarfism to do it in the UK.
“When I was a kid, if I’d seen someone with dwarfism doing a dancing show on a Saturday night, it would just be something so special.”
Speaking exclusively to OK!, Ellie confessed: “One of the things I’m nervous about is not getting votes and being in the dance-off. If I got the Glitterball it would go in my house in Cheshire. I’d put it in my office on my desk.”
“It shows if I can do it – and I’ve seen the likes ofRose [Ayling-Ellis]who’s changing the world of disability and inclusivity – then people watching at home can adapt it to them, too.
“Yes, I’m nervous about what it’s going to be like. Nikita and I were chatting about it yesterday and we’re going to just see. It might look different, and my partner’s going to be tall and we’re probably not going to be able to hold the same poses, but I’m sure it’s going to work.”
