James Whale, 69, regularly fronts his weekday evening programme on talkRadio. But the presenter has since addressed the real reason behind his absence from tonight’s show.

It comes after the radio host revealed that he’s fighting cancer of the brain, spine, kidney and lungs earlier this year.

James took to Twitter and gave a quick announcement, in view of his 75,000 followers.

The talkRadio presenter explained that he is feeling unwell and is suffering a mild flu.

In a short clip, James said: “Hi guys. I’m not feeling so well today. I had a flu jab last week and I think I’ve probably got a little bit of mild flu.

“I won’t be on the air tonight but I shall be listening in.”

James reassured fans that he is fine and plans to resume his regular schedule soon.

He continued: “Apart from that I’m fine. It’s just you know, when you get the flu everything just aches.

“But just in case you were wondering where I was, I’m having a rest at home with my two best friends.”

James panned the camera around his living room but his pet pooches did not appear.

“Oh they’re not there,” he commented.

“But we’ll be back with you hopefully tomorrow. In the meantime, stay tuned to talkRadio. Britain’s number one conversation station.”

Fans of the radio presenter inundated him with messages, as they offered their well wishes.

James explained he will be back on the airwaves tomorrow, so listeners will not have to wait too long.

Taking to Twitter, he penned: “I’m standing in for the great @THEJamesWhale tonight. Join me and @virtualash from 7-10pm… on @talkRADIO.”(sic)

The news of James’ absence comes after he revealed he had cancer back in August.

“This little b*****d has spread,” he began.

“It’s in my remaining kidney. I’ve got a couple of small lesions in my lungs.”

James continued to tell The Sun: “I’ve got it in my spine. I’ve got it in my brain.”
