Singer Jesy Nelson left the music world speechless in December 2020 when she announced she would be leaving Little Mix with immediate effect. Now the chart-topper, who is embarking on a solo career, has dropped a dramatic revelation about her former bandmates.

‘We think Jesy should come out of this now, she has to look after herself.’

Jesy, 30, has been open about her mental health struggles in the past, admitting she once felt suicidal due to the negative attention she received during her time in the band.

The singer had turned to unhealthy diets, which saw her eat just a packet of ham and drinking Diet Coke on a daily basis, due to the hate she received over her weight.

Jesy previously fronted her own documentary, Jesy Nelson: Odd One Out, during which she admitted that she often felt as though she didn’t fit in the band.

While some were left perplexed by Jesy’s decision to carry on in the music industry following her exit, she admits she never ruled out not performing again.

In a new interview, Jesy claims she suffered an unbearable panic attack during filming for her final single with Little Mix, Sweet Melody, which was released in 2020.

Before her exit, the then four-piece group performed at BBC Radio 1’s Live Lounge, which saw her bandmate Perrie Edwards take over her vocals.

“It got to the point where I thought, this is too much – I need to come out of this now,” she told The Guardian.

Jesy went on to bravely reveal: “I did the music video and had a panic attack, and it was pretty mental that day.”

She added: “After the video, I just got back in a really dark place and ended up back in hospital, that was when my mum said, ‘No more.’”

Discussing her decision to leave the band after almost a decade, she continued: “I had already decided.

“Then the girls spoke to Mum and said, ‘We think Jesy should come out of this now, she has to look after herself.’”

When asked whether the decision was as much her bandmates as her own, she confirmed: “Yeah.”

In her BBC documentary, Jesy revealed that she was hospitalised after a suicide attempt during the heyday of her girl band days.

The singer said she became “obsessed” with finding negative comments about herself on social media and was constantly searching for terms such as “Jesy fat” or “Jesy ugly”.

“Everyone told me to ignore it but it was like an addiction,” she explained.

In the weeks leading up to a performance on The X Factor, Jesy admits that she would starve herself and binge eat after work commitments.

After the group’s performance of their single, Move, she attempted suicide following harsh criticism over her appearance.

She explained: “I felt that I physically couldn’t tolerate the pain anymore.”

Now, Jesy is preparing to embark on her solo career, with her debut single, Boyz, which currently doesn’t have a release date.

Sources claim that Jesy is in talks to perform at the MTV VMA’s in New York next month alongside rapper Nicki Minaj.
