Louise Minchin, 52, was left immobile after sustaining a foot injury that left her unable to present her BBC Breakfast for an extended break last year. Despite her return to the sofa, the broadcaster previously admitted her recovery is “uncertain” and she was unable to determine when her foot would be completely healed to return to training.

Taking to Twitter, Louise has since revealed that she has been making progress each week.

The Breakfast host has been slowly pushing herself on her daily runs as the triathlete revealed she had marked a new milestone.

In view of her 205,000 followers, Louise revealed that she has been increasing her running target but was swiftly quizzed by a viewer.

The BBC anchor wrote: “I hope you have had a good weekend, I am slowly getting to 5k with the help of these two and @jowhiley @Couchto5K.”

The Breakfast host made reference to her pet dogs who have assisted the presenter on her runs.

A viewer quizzed: “I know you are rehabilitating a serious injury, but do you find you need the whole couch to 5k program to run the distance again?”

Louise replied: “I have yes.”

Another penned: “It’s really heartening reading about your progress following injury. I’m struggling with Achilles tendonitis and missing running so much but following your updates gives me hope to get back to it soon.”

A third wrote: “I broke my ankle badly in February. Just getting back to walking around and have done a few trips around the block of a mile or so each. No running for me though – my knees hate it!”

“I’m in the same boat Louise after my ankle ligaments were stretched when I turned my ankle,” a fourth remarked.

Louise’s foot injury was a result of the presenter not having her ankle previously checked after sustaining an injury training for a triathlon last year.

“Instead of seeing a doctor I wrapped it, iced it, took some painkillers, and stopped running for three weeks before Norseman,” Louise explained.

“It worked, and although it was tough, I finished the 3.8km swim, 180km bike ride and marathon, limping but ecstatic at the sense of achievement.”

She then revealed that she had broken a bone in her foot and also snapped an ankle ligament.

After surgery to reconstruct, Louise admitted she has no idea how long it would take to fully recover.

The broadcaster has been giving her social media users updates on her recovery.

Meanwhile, Louise shared her delight after she announced she was finally “in charge” at Breakfast.

It comes as the presenter dished on the Oscar Awards 2021 which aired last night.

Louise revealed she had been given her own chair with her named etched on the back.

She penned: “Good morning, finally I am in charge on #BBCBreakfast #Oscars.”

BBC Breakfast airs daily on BBC One at 6am.
