Princess Diana’s niece opted against wearing her wedding tiara over ‘painful memories’

Lady Kitty Spencer married billionaire Michael Lewis in 2021 in an extravagant ceremony in Italy where she wore five different wedding gowns throughout the day.

The 32 year old, who is the niece of the late Princess Diana, wed Michael, 63, last year, but many were left confused when she chose not to sport her aunt's signature Spencer Tiara.

Diana, who passed away in 1997, wore the statement diamond and floral piece on her and King Charles' wedding day in 1981.

The tiara belongs to the Spencer family, but Kitty opted not to wear it on the day of her nuptials and has never discussed her decision.

James Constantinou, the founder of Prestige Pawnbrokers, has now revealed that he believes it was because the tiara holds "painful memories" for Lady Kitty.

He told the Express: “Lady Kitty has always remained very private, and has never discussed the choice to not wear the tiara.

“It is thought that wearing the tiara would bring back painful memories for Kitty, remembering her aunt who died in tragic circumstances, and also memories of her own mother’s marriage which was also not a happy ending."

Speaking about the 32 year old's wedding day, James also added: “It was thought that Lady Kitty Spencer was influenced by a number of things on her wedding day. She wanted to combine her love of Italy with her English heritage which involved flower garlands worn in the hair."

Lady Kitty and Michael tied the knot in Italy after three years together, with the duo exchanging vows as the sun set over the Villa Aldobrandini in Frascati.

Kitty and Michael's nuptials were attended by her sisters Eliza and Amelia, former Strictly Come Dancing star Viscountess Emma Weymouth, and celebrity friends including Pixie Lott, Idris Elba's wife Sabrina and Made In Chelsea's Mark Vandelli.

Michael's three adult children from a previous marriage, who Kitty is said to have formed strong relationships with, were also in attendance.

It is unknown whether Kitty's father Charles Spencer attended his daughter's wedding, as he posted an image to Instagram from the grounds of the Althorp estate in Northampton on Friday evening.

Italian fashion house Dolce and Gabbana are thought to have played a big part in the day, designing the bride's give gowns, with a number of guests also dressed in the label on the big day.
