What Jennifer Lopez Says Fans Can Expect From Her and Shakira's Super Bowl Halftime Show

Jennifer Lopez and Shakira are performing at the Super Bowl in February 2020 and J. Lo just hinted at what viewers can expect when the two take the stage in Miami, Fla. for the halftime show. Here’s why we think Lopez is the perfect choice for the gig.

Lopez and Shakira are in full planning mode

Even though the Super Bowl is three months away, the “Hips Don’t Lie” singer and the star of Hustlers are already working on the details of their performance. According to GMA, Lopez spoke with Extra about preparations for the Super Bowl and what fans can expect.

“I have been doing a lot of meetings … been prepping and hiring the people and putting concepts and ideas for the show together,” Lopez said.

The 50-year-old also shared that she and Shakira have talked about ideas and have been considering whether or not they want to include other performing artists in the show.

“Shakira and I have spoken a few times already. She’s putting her thing together, [I’m] putting my thing together, thinking about who we want to join us onstage, if we want that,” she added.

J. Lo on ‘main goal’ of the halftime show

J. Lo, who recently donated a year’s worth of food to a Tennesse elementary school with her fiancé Alex “A-Rod” Rodriguez, also explained what she and the 42-year-old Colombian native hope to achieve with their halftime show performance.

The mother of two — she shares twins, Emme and Max, with her first husband Marc Anthony — confessed to being “super-excited” about headlining the big event (Who wouldn’t be?!) and she also explained what her and Shakira’s overall goal is for the performance.

“We want to make a beautiful, impactful, enjoyable, fun show for everybody. We want to bring everybody together. That’s the point,” Lopez said. “We as artists have that rare gift to be able to do that, and that’s what I think our main goal is.”

She added that the setlist hasn’t been confirmed and that her outfits are in the early stages i.e. sketches but that her “main goal is just to have fun out there.”

Did Pink predict Jennifer Lopez and Shakira Super Bowl performance?

“Raise Your Glass” singer Pink told Billboard in an interview just days before Shakira and Lopez announced they were performing at the Super Bowl halftime show, that she’d like to see more diversity in the artists who take on the massive show. Sure, there were rumors J. Lo had been tapped for the gig but nothing had been released yet.

The 40-year-old sang the national anthem at the Super Bowl in 2018 which earned her an invitation to perform during the halftime show the following year but she turned it down, according to ET.

In the wake of the controversy surrounding Colin Kaepernick (find out which NFL teams would benefit from signing the athlete here) and the protests against police brutality where players took a knee during “The Star-Spangled Banner,” Pink suggested the NFL “should only give it, because of the controversy, to African-American or Latina women for a while.” Maybe executives at the NFL listened to Pink because only a few days later Shakira and Lopez took to Instagram to share the news that they’d be performing at Super Bowl 54.
