Every single paisa of provident fund will be returned to UPPCL employees: CM Yogi Adityanath

Yogi Adityanath blamed the previous Samajwadi Party government for the “roots of the scam”, saying that a favourite officer of the previous government, whose term was extended, again and again, was the mastermind of the scam”.

Stating that his government was working on the policy of “zero tolerance” towards crime and corruption in the state, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday said that his government would return “every single paisa” of the state power firm employees provident fund (PF) after confiscating properties of those behind the scam of investing PF money in tainted private firm DHFL.

He, however, blamed the previous Samajwadi Party government for the “roots of the scam”, saying that a favourite officer of the previous government, whose term was extended, again and again, was the mastermind of the scam”.

“We will not let the interest of any employee be harmed. The properties of all those involved in this scam will be confiscated and every single paisa of each and every employee will be returned,” the CM said during the special session of the state Legislative Council, convened to mark 70 years of the adoption of the Constitution.

“No one will be allowed to go scot-free. The government has said it and will do it,” he added.

“In whose government, the term of the UPPCL managing director was being extended again and again without even approval from the cabinet? Moreover, the mastermind of this entire scam was the favourite officer of the previous (SP) government, who has been sent to jail by our government,” he added.

The Chief Minister’s assurance comes amid rising concern among state government employees over the security of their provident fund money following the investment of more than Rs 2,600 crore from UPPCL employees provident fund to scam-hit DHFL. Earlier this month, the employees of UPPCL had also staged protest, demanding assurance from the government about the safety of their provident fund savings.

Last Saturday, the UP government had said that every legal step would be taken to recover the money and as a final option, the government will provide interest-less loan to UPPCL to pay the needed amount to the employees. So far five persons, including former trust secretary Praveen Kumar Gupta, former UPPCL director (finance) Sudhanshu Dwivedi and former UPPCL managing director A P Mishra, have been arrested in connection with the scam.
